In yet another case of theft that took place in Punjab, a group of burglars broke into the shop of IMB Computers in Jalandhar and took away 650 HP cartridges that cost Rs 5.5 lakh.

The incident took place on the night of Oct 12 (Saturday) and was first noticed by the owner of the company the next day. “Normally, we do not open office on Sundays, but that day I went there for some work. After entering the showroom, I noticed that all the products were in place, but only the cartridges were missing. Around 650 pieces of cartridges were stolen from the store,” informed Inder Mohan Bhaskar, owner, IMB Computers.

According to him, whosoever is involved in the incident was well versed in IT trade and had done all the basic ground work. IMB Computer is the distributor of HP supplies and printers. Besides cartridges, the store also displays printers, toner and peripherals.

“The person who is involved in the incident is sure to be well aquainted with IT. He did not steal printers or PCs because they could be tracked by their serial numbers. Cartridges cannot be traced and can easily be sold further. However, we have no clue as to who could be involved in the incident,” commented Bhaskar.

When inquired with about the involvement of any of his employees, Bhaskar clarified that all his employees were very old and could not be involved in such an activity. He has registered an FIR in the police station and interrogation is on with the watchman who was on duty that night.

The cases of thefts have increased manifold in Punjab, especially in the regions of Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Recently, in a couple of incidents, thefts took place at gun point. As the incident came into light, Bhaskar informed Jalandhar Computers Dealers Association (JCDA) and they circulated the information among the channel community in the town.

Bhaskar now plans to install a strong security system for his showroom's safety.
