Kolkata-based Sea Infonet has recently been appointed as the national
distributor for Romania-based BitDefender.
Speaking on the development, Biswajit Saha, Partner, Sea Infonet said,
“BitDefender although is new to India, it is a well-accepted product overseas,
and is rated among the top products in its category.”
The security software is available in three versions, BitDefender Anti-Virus,
BitDefender Internet Security and BitDefender Total Security, all of which come
in latest 2008 versions. However, Sea Infonet is distributing BitDefender Total
Security only, as this version combines all the features together. “Apart from
the regular anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, this product comes with two
unique features-tune-up and back-up that enables the user to tune-in his PC as
well as maintain backups of important files,” said Saha. “The BitDefender Total
Security is available at a price point of around Rs 1,400 per user, which is
pretty competitive in its category,” he added.
Having started in 2001, Sea Infonet gradually shifted off from trading IT
hardware products and became focused with distribution of packaged software.
Apart from BitDefender, the company is also the national distributor for
Canada-based data recovery software-Rollback and Kaspersky anti-virus. “The
market for packaged software is growing in India. The business also earns a good
profit margin providing a strong bottomline growth to the company,” stated Saha.
It is now in the process of appointing sub-distributors for various regions
across India. The company has appointed Newest Infosolutions and Tower Infotech
as its sub-distributors in Hyderabad and Kolkata respectively. “In addition, we
are planning to appoint 12 more sub-distributors in India wherein, we will break
the entire geography into strategic regions in order to have a good coverage in
remote locations as well,” he informed. “So far, we have received good response
from the partners and we are hopeful that BitDefender will capture a good
market. The pricing of the product has been decided in such a way that the
partners would also be able to earn good margins,” added Saha.
